"Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are."
Bernice Johnson Reagon

This is the quote I needed today since yesteday I learned that I did not get accepted into a exhibit that I thought may be a really good opportunity.  It did leave me feeling a little paralyzed and bummed, but this really did perk me up.  I had submitted some pieces that really weren't me, but I thought that is what they wanted so that is what I did.  You just can't be all things to all people, can ya?

  4. Well FIRST of all... I hear ya', sister! I've been rejected a LOT. But - my favorite Chinese saying "Fall down 7 times... get up 8 times.." - You learn, you learn, you learn. And so WHAT if these judges don't like what you submit - chances are if you saw their work you'd go 'ho-hum....'. and if you paint what you love, your enthusiasm shows. I, personally, LOVE your work, and if I were the judge, I'd say "Best In Show"! Love the ying and yang of this painting - also, it seems to have the 'blues'.. :)

  6. All those people who tell us not to take rejection from a show, gallery, etc. personally are RIGHT. Keep on keepin' on. If not THAT show, then another show!

  8. Amy, I'm loving these chairs! AND, I just read a quote yesterday and put it in my journal...that I always keep with me, and somehow left @ the studio!!?? Any way, it was something about creating what comes from your heart first, then find a show that it is appropriate for...otherwise your work will not be authentic. When I find the quote I will get it to you!

  9. Okay...I read this in the latest Art Calendar Magazine from an article written by Renee Phillips...."focus on creating your best work first, and then determine what your best market venues are. If you reverse the order you will always be in disharmony and behind the market."
I used to make pieces for specific shows, and/or jurors...now I create what I want to, and maybe a show will come along that it would be a good fit. Anyway, thought I'd share.
