Worthy Friends

18 x 14 Oil on Canvas

Are we worthy enough to be abundant through our art, do we deserve it?  This past week I went to a lecture given by International Artist Edward Povey.  He coaches and consults many artists,  many that struggle with this same underlying question. Somewhere deep down this may be a question that plagues many of us, no matter what the goal.  I loved his perspective on this topic.  If your reading this post you  have eyes and have the sense of sight. If you didn't have that sense, how much would you pay for a day,  a week, a year of sight? Would you deserve it?  Many are blessed with two legs and the handy transportation they enable us. How much would you pay for a day, a week, a year of these useful limbs? Do we deserve those? We have hands that allow us many many uses - how much would you...you get the drift.

We really don't sit around and contemplate if we deserve eyes, legs or hands, but we do this with having abundance...whether it is conscious or un-conconscious.  What would it be like if we stopped having the "do I deserve self-talk" and had the whole idea be a "non-thing". ..you know, just like using those body parts. Is this as big a revelation for you as it is for me?

  1. Amy, beautiful painting, as always! Your comments remind me of how much we take for granted, and how important it is to appreciate what we have, two legs to walk, two eyes to see, and on and on! We all have many blessings!

  2. You're a good writer, Amy, as well as a good painter!!! Oh, I love the subject of those little bear buddies, and the composition really makes you pay attention to them!

  3. Excellent food for thought Amy...this is a topic that we each have to meet on our own terms.

I feel that being a working artist for more than four decades has taught me some very important lessons about what real wealth and true success are. Daily graitude is at the top of my list.

Your comparison of deserving abundance to deserving our body parts is terrific.
